KEEPING THE FAITH

Sorry this week’s email is a tad late.  On Tuesday I worked as a “Covid Clerk” at a polling place in Weldon, and on Wednesday, well, I needed a day to decompress and recover.

First, my experience as a poll worker.  I have never done it before, and I while I have imagined it is a very long, tedious, and somewhat thankless job, I wanted to volunteer because I knew that (a) many of the usual volunteers would not be doing it this year due to legitimate Covid concerns, and (b) because of Covid, the Elections office needed MORE people than ever – approximately three for each precinct, to be exact: Covid Inspector and two Covid Clerks.  Also because of Covid, KC Elections was anticipating some people having to be sent home who were running temperatures (we had to take them when we set up and when we arrived to work on Tuesday).  I wanted to make absolutely sure all our polling places would be able to operate as usual, so I volunteered.
